Another Headstone in the Print Graveyard

Alas, one of the great news papers, The Christian Science Monitor, has announced that it will be ending its print publication as of April. We’ve seen the decline of the print newspaper industry for some time – but this one is really a shame. It will maintain itself as a web property, but this really signifies a turning point for print. As we move into a more challenging advertising market, we’re quite likely to see others take the same route.

The good news is that at least their site is doing pretty well:

  1. It’s so sad to see such an iconic newspaper have to change with the times. Technology is wonderful, but it still makes me sad to see this.

  2. As a refugee from print journalism, it saddens me to such publications like the Monitor fade away, too, but I realize that magazines, trade pubs and newspapers have to keep up with the times as well. I personally feel the loss of the CSM, though, because it was a required “text” in my Feature Writing 101 class. Goodbye, old friend!
